Day 01:
Vientiane
Welcome to Vientiane: The smallest capital in the world
seems to wake up from its "Hundred Years' Sleep"... Its "Arch
of Triumph", temples, busy local shops, colorful little art
galleries which flank some of the main streets give the
capital an exotic mix of "East meets West".
Day 02 and Day 03: Vientiane - Xieng Khouang (Plain of Jars)
Fly to the mystical Plain of Jars - a man-made mystery! No
One can fully explain why several hundred stone jars varying
in size from 500 kilograms to five tons are scattered across
this high, remote plain. there is a disagreement on
everything from their age to their uses. They are up to
2,000 years old and their suggested uses include rice
canister and burial sarcophagi!
Day 4 and Day 5: Luang Prabang
You'll have an app. 7 hours drive to Luang Prabang. Nestled
on the banks of the Mekong River and surrounded by mountains,
Luang Prabang is one of Asia's most beautiful and enchanting
cities. Take in the special feel of this unique town by
wandering around the decaying temples and French colonial
villas and get a deep sense of the country's proud history.
You won't regret your stay and the several excursions
awaiting you!
Day 06: Luang Prabang - Pak Ou Cave - Pakbeng
Sailing upstream on the busy Mekong, visiting Pak Ou cave
housing beautiful Buddha images, passing Ethnic minority
villages along the untamable river will bring you back to
far-away times!
Day 07: Pakbeng - Lao/Thai Border - Chiang Rai
Another enjoyable boat ride will bring you back to Thailand,
where you are back in the 21st century! You drive on a good
road to Chiang Rai for your onward flight to Bangkok - or
why not book a night in a relaxing resort?? Or continue to

From Vientiane to Luang Prabang
Day 01: Vientiane/Arrival
"Sawadeeeee" - your guide will greet you upon arrival in Vientiane, a city where east meets west!
At the left bank of the Mekong River there is the largest city of Laos and the smallest capital in the world. Graced by the "Arch of Triumph", you will visit its superb markets,
outstanding monuments, and numerous temples such as Wat Phra Keo
which contains the three Pitaka, the most sacred books of the
Buddhist religion. Hundreds of Buddhas made of bronze line the floor
and colorful angels and flowers are carved into the pillars, walls,
and the ceiling. Visit the temple of Wat Si Muang, home of the
garden spirit of the Vientiane and the near by Tat Luang Stupa.
Enjoy the very special atmosphere at the elegant French colonial
style mansion and weaving studio of American expatriate weaver and
'designer' Ms. Carol Cassidy. Overnight in Vientiane.
Day 02:
Vientiane - Xieng Khouang (Plain of Jars)
After breakfast, if time permits, visit to the bustling morning market which is the biggest shopping center in Vientiane. Transfer to Wattay airport for departure Xieng
Khouang, situated on high plateau of grasses and scrubby trees, this area is doted with more than hundred large stone. Legend has it that these stone jars were cups used by a race of Kha giants to drink alcohol. Apart from the site of the "Plain of Jars" Xieng
Khouang province was one of the most heavily bombed areas of Laos in the American air-war which began in 1964 and lasted for nine years. On arrival take a brief city tour around the town before check- in. Overnight in Xieng Khouang.
Day 03:
Xieng Khouang - Plain of Jars
This morning drive (10 km) to Phonesavan, Xieng Khouang Province in northeastern Laos, to visit Plain of Jars which dates back at least 2000 years ago. Continue to visit plain of jar (Site2) 'Hai Hin Phu Salato'. En-route visits the Hmong village of Ban Na Sala where you can learn about their housing, living and working condition which is completely different from others. In the afternoon drive to Maung Khoung, the old capital of Xiengkhoung which was heavily damaged during the war, there you can see some former French settlement and hospital as well as the damage famous temple of Wat Phia Wat. Overnight in Xieng Khoung.
Day 04:
Xieng Khouang (Plain of Jars) - Luang Prabang
After breakfast take a long trip by road 8 and which will last 9 hours till you arrive. Enjoy a most scenic drive to this remote area. Tucked away in a long narrow valley, the steep road winds through a brilliant evergreen pine-forest passing see the scenic view to Luang Prabang which is the ancient first capital of Lane Xang Kingdom and a World Cultural Heritage city. Late afternoon arrive in Luang and check-in at hotel.
Day 05: Luang Prabang - Pak Ou Cave
After breakfast visit Wat Xiengthong, the 16th century temple which more than any temple in Luang Prabang, epitomizes all the elegance and grace of Luan Prabang's architecture. Enjoy a boat ride (a few hours) upstream on the Mekong River. Watch slender canoes bobbing by the shore, floating poles marking the location of nets and fish traps, children playing on the sand beach, women washing laundry or taking showers. Visit Pak Ou cave situated in the side of a lime stone cliff and opposite of the mount of Mekong and Ou rivers. Two large caves are home for one thousand Buddhas which are allegedly more than 300 years old. It is believed by the locals that many good-natured spirits reside in these caves. Climb some more steps up to visit a small royal cave Wat nearby you will see Lao typical villages a screen of foliage, slender canoes bobbing by the shore, bamboo poles and floats that mark the location of nets and fish traps. Stop at Ban Muang kao, well-known for the famous Lao welcome cocktail 'lao-khao'. Watch the rice alcohol-processing plant and learn the step-by-step traditional process. Arrive back to Luang Prabang in late afternoon continue by road to the villages of Ban Xang Khong, a well known villages for their jute paper production, silk weaving and natural dying. Learn the step-by-step processing techniques used to manufacture these products which have been used since ancient times. Overnight in Luang Prabang.
Day 06: Luang Prabang -
Kuangsi Waterfall
After breakfast drive to Kuangsi Waterfall (30 km) south of Lauparaban which is not very high but its spectacular and green surrounding makes it a preserve National Park. En- route visit Ban Na Oune, a small village of the hill tribe called "Hmong". They are the best known minority group in Laos. Conitue to visit Ban Tha Pane village and see the minority of Khmu tribe. Relax at the shady park near by Kuangsi water fall. Return to Laung Prabang. You will have enough time to walk up the 329 steps of Mt. Phousy to enjoy the view of the over the Mekong. Overnight in Luang Prabang.
Day 07: Luang Prabang - Departure
After breakfast visit the exquisite Royal Palace Museum.Built in 1904, during the French colonial era for King Sisavang Vong and his family. Architecturally it combines a blend of traditional Lao motifs and the French Beaux-Art styles. This museum houses a wonderful collection of objects of art, costumes from the Royal Theater, jewelry and other interesting treasures belonging to former kings. The rest of the day if free. Transfer to Luang Prabang airport for departure to your next destination. |
